The coal mining industry wants you to believe it is committed to developing technologies that don't cost the earth, while they carry on with business-as-usual. Burning fossil fuels, especially coal, is heating up the earth and fundamentally altering the nature of the planet. Most people now realise this, and that's why the coal industry is co-opting governments and scientists here and around the world to waste time and money trying to figure out how to keep burning coal.

They came up with the idea of burying the carbon dioxide underground. This idea has been called many things, including "clean coal", geosequestration, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and has also been referred to as a "low emissions technology". The reality is that this technology does not curently exist, and may never exist. Meanwhile, the world needs to start making wholesale reductions to greenhouse pollution today, if we are to avoid dangerous climate change.
