Our modern consumer lifestyle - as the NSW Minerals Council is eager to point out – is built on exploitation of natural resources, and on cheap energy production, from coal. But is it worth it?
Are plasma TV screens, reverse-cycle air conditioners, and shiny new cars really so great that we will trade away the very planet that we live on? Do white goods make us happy, or would we be happier if we consumed less, had stronger community ties, more time away from work, and knew that when our kids grew up, the world was going to be a good place to live?
